A couple of weeks ago, I wrote an article about the iPod Touch versus the iPhone. I’ve done a lot more reading and research on this and have decided on the iTouch (I can’t call it the iPod Touch, too long, and sorry for the perverse name). I’ve heard all of the reviews saving it is lacking but they all say the same thing. That if the iTouch had come out first, people would be blown away by it and in awe of it. Well it didn’t come out first, the iPhone did. People need to stop all of the bitching about that it doesn’t have this or that and realize that it is a pocket media player. Its purpose is to play music and videos. Done, it does that. All of the extra items to me are bonuses. Now don’t get me wrong. I will totally take advantage of all of its cool features like the WiFi but it’s not necessary. I have that already on my phone. I have WiFi, camera, calendar, email, etc. right there on my trusty Dash. Why would I want that all again so I can carry around two things that basically do the same thing?
So sorry for my little rant there. Some was for the people that I hear bitching online but honestly, it was mostly for me. Even though I have set my mind on the iTouch, I still have thoughts about “Why not the iPhone?” and “Maybe the iPhone will be cooler”. I don’t understand why I even think this but what can you do? I am going to get the iTouch and a review will be found here shortly after.
Since I apparently need the confirmation, let me know what you think. Am I making a good move? Speak Up!

Good on you for doing what you want. I have read the bad review the iTouch got on ilounge.com but I decided to get one yesterday anyway (I am in NZ).
It’s a very nice machine; the interface is wonderful and it does what it says on the box. I would have liked a little bit more memory (I got the 8G one), but I suppose it all depends how much media you want to carry around. Very sexy machine though; all ‘graphite and glitter’ as Donald Fagen would sing.
I also have another phone (a Nokia N95) so I don’t really need another phone.
What i like about my ipod touch is thati can go on a trip, go for a walk and leave my phone behind. I do not want to get a phone call in the middle of my fav song, nor do i have a “constant” need for internet connection.
I think this obsession for the never ending need to be online is getting to much. I think the touch is great as sometimes i don’t want a phone on me 24/7. I just watn my music without the constant fear of a ringtone. I for one plan to get an ipod touch.
Thanks for the comments both of you.
@Fletch - I’m glad to hear that you like it. I’ve read too many times that had it come out first, more people would like it.
@matt - I agree with you about splitting the phone and media player. Another good argument for the iTouch.
Thanks guys and stick around. I hope you like my little blog here.

There are some great hacks now available for the i-touch that will give you pretty much all the widgets the i-phone has!
Too many people complaining about the iTouch lack of features without a single mention of the additional $50+ bucks a month you will need to shell out for those features on the iPhone. My company offers a discount on AT&T, but it is not available with the iPhone, plus the minutes plans are more expensive not to mention the required internet/Text Messages your are required to purchase on a NEW 2 year agreement - eventhough they do not offer a discount on the price of the phone. I was torn between the iphone and the iTouch, but I am going for iTouch because, I am already paying for a FIOS internet connection, and have aresonable cell plan, I do not need the extra internet connection on my phone, and if I need to get email or browse the net while on the go, I will use a laptop or my iTouch at a hot spot. btw, most email providers have an internet site, I do not need a client for email.

I agree with post of your posts. I have decided on the iTouch and am just waiting to get some funds in and it will be in my dirty, grubby hands soon.
Do either of you know of good sites that have iTouch apps on them?
I have the iPhone and I am learning to love it. Now that the new jailbreak is out, the iPhone is becoming what many dreamed it would be when they stood in line to buy it. However, the reason I am commenting is the incredible pride I have in being able to say that I know you, because you are able to get people to call in the iTouch which just makes me laugh. Whistle Whistle… Touchers!
the iTouch can be jailbreaked as well. check out http://www.tuaw.com for all the info…
Thanks for the great article. Keep up the good work.
